Activate Your Five Senses Exercise


SPACE


Look around the space you are in, I would like to invite you to find one area where you feel safe and able to sit on a chair comfortably.


Now, have both of your feet touching on the ground; have your back sitting straight and notice the spot inside your body where it supports your upper body, while you are sitting on the chair, have your head looking straight.


Now, relax and drop your shoulders, relax your back and allow your body really sit on the spot where it supports you, relax your legs and allow the bottom of your feet sink into the ground.

EYE


Now, I would like to invite you to heat up the palms with your hands; then touch the eyes and send the energy from the palms of your hands to your eyes, close your eyes, while your eyes are closing, move your eyeballs to the left, move your eyeballs to the right, move your eyeballs upward, move your eyeballs downward; then look straight as you gently opening your eyes, move your eyeballs to the left, move your eyeballs to the right, move your eyeballs upward, move your eyeballs downward.


Now, use all of your strength to close your eyelids, then use all of your strength to have your eyes wide open, allow yourself to fill the energy into the muscle around your eyes, while your eyes is wild open, move your eyeballs to the left, move your eyeballs to the right, move your eyeballs upward, move your eyeballs downward, then use your eyeballs to draw a circle from left to right, then from right to left, then close your eyes and open your eyes gently.


Now, pay attention to the things around you, what are the five things you notice around you?

EAR


Let’s heat up the palm of your hands as well as the fingers of your hands again: then have both hands cover both of your ears, and sending the heat from your palms to your ears, allow your ears to feel the warmness from your hands;


Then, give a massage to your ears, use your fingers gently massage the outline of your ears, give every inch of the ears a gentle pinch, and activate the senses in your ears.


Now, pay attention to the sounds around you, what are the four sounds you can hear in your surrounding space?

MOUTH


Let’s heat up your palms and fingers with your hands again, this time have the hands touch the face and send the energy from your palms to your face, then move the palms in circle while the hand is touching the face, and allow the muscle around your mouth to relax and feel the circulate movement on your face.

Now, gently use the fingers to tap on the muscles around the mouth, then smile, keep your mouth in smiling position for few seconds, now focus on your smile, and sending all the energy to the muscle around your cheeks, and slowly opens your teeth, and have your mouth wide open.

Now, take a deep breath through your mouth, and allow the air to fill your lung, while you are breathing the air in, give a taste to the air, give yourself a notice, what can you taste in the air? Then, breathe the air out through your mouth, after you breathe all the air out of your lung, close your mouth, and relax muscle around your mouth, gently open your jaw and let your jaw go loose.

While your jaw is in relaxing position, breathe the air in and out gently with your mouth.

Give yourself a notice: What are the three things you can taste around you?


NOSE


I would like to invite you to heat up your fingers again, then touch your nose and send the energy from your finger to your nose.


Now, I would like to invite you to put one of your index fingers on the tip of your nose and breathe gently. While you are breathing in, I would like to invite you to pay attention to your nostril and feel the air going into the nose; while you are breathing out, I would like to invite you to pay attention to your hand and feel the air breathing out on your hand. Are you ready? Let’s breathe in and feel the air going into your nostril; let’s breathe out and feel the air blowing on the fingers and hand.

Let’s breathe in, and feel the rhythm of the air going into your nostril, are you breathing the air into your nostril clam and slow, or are you breathing the air into your nostril short and hastily? Let’s breathe out, and feel how your fingers and hand feel while you are breathing out, does your hand and fingers feel gentleness and soothing? Or does your hands and fingers feel rough and harsh?

Simply allow yourself to be the way you are at the moment, gently breathe the air into your nose through your nostrils, gently breathe the air out through your nostrils.


Give yourself a notice: What are the two smells you can smell in the air?


MUSCLE


Let’s heat up your palms again, this time touch your neck and send the energy from your palms to your neck, meanwhile give a gentle massage to both your neck and shoulder, then tap on your arms with your hands.


At last, bring both of your arms upward, as if you want to reach the sky as high as possible, and stretch your back, while you are stretching your body upward, send your strength and energy to your feet, and allow your feet to get in deep touch with the ground.


Once your feel connected with the ground, then opens your arm, as if you are drawing a rainbow above your head, and look up, stay in this position a few seconds til you feel a sense of openness. After you get in touch with your sense of openness and connect with different parts of your body, relax your muscles, and sit comfortably on the spot where it supports you.

Now, here is a coaching question for you: What can you do to better get in touch with different parts of your body?
